I do think it's a strength of the film that it helps us understand the choice he made - even though we disagree with him, we can understand where he was coming from. I find that it helps me see him with compassion, even as I disagree strongly with what he has done. And then, like you said, once he was in this situation, it raises even more difficult questions. What a mess it was! I think that if Tom knew he couldn't live with what he had done under any circumstance then the best thing he could have done is report the incident and let the baby have the life that she was given even if she ended up in an orphanage. I know it was not an easy decision but for the sake of the child he shouldn't have changed his mind once he made the choice to raise her as his own. They could have tried to adopt her or another child. They didn't live at the light house forever and it looks like they never had more children or tried to adopt.OneAmericanPatriothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03338288508384514679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-971426914329031578.post-43825343633676182422017-02-27T23:57:51.930-08:002017-02-27T23:57:51.930-08:00Hi Lynn - I also felt sad that Tom and Isabel were...Hi Lynn - I also felt sad that Tom and Isabel weren't allowed to be in Lucy Grace's life. The scene you mentioned with the police was also really hard. I would have been interested to see some of Lucy Grace's life between her young childhood and her young adulthood, to see how she processed and adjusted her new circumstances. What a tear jerker! I was so hoping that Hannah would have allowed Tom and Isabel to be in Lucy Grace's life. She prayed to God and promised to do what what was best for Grace, but keeping her away from the people she saw as her parents (in my opinion) was cruel. Lucy Grace lost her each mother in her young life--first her birth mom then her (adoptive) mom. Seeing Lucy Grace being ripped from Isabel by the police was terrible.
